[Background]
The young daughter of a family in the village of Rosemary, Erza Scarlet was forced into slave labor by a mad cult. The cultists, devotees of the dark wizard Zerif whom they worship as a god, went about kidnapping young children and anyone else they could get their hands on to use as slaves to construct a tower. This tower, called the "Tower of Heaven" would then be used to resurrect Zerif. Before the cultists could take her, however, Erza managed to hide a fellow villager, Kagura, sparing her the horrors that would come with slavery while being captured herself.
Separated from her family, child Erza befriended several other children around her age, most prominently a boy named Jellal whom she had a crush on, and an old man named Rob. For a time where every slave--man, woman, and child--were being worked to their ends toiling away on the Tower of Heaven, Erza's life seemed strangely rounded by her small circle of friends, having met each other in a way none of them ever expected.
Over the course of this torturous childhood, Erza listened to Rob's stories of when he was a young, powerful wizard from a small guild called Fairy Tail. Over time, she grew more and more enamoured with the idea of herself also being a wizard and being able to just fly away from the terrible Tower of Heaven.
Soon, it was almost a reality.
One of the kids had devised a plan for the children to escape the Tower's construction site and flee by boat to a new land far away. During the actual escape, however, the kids were found out and Erza was taken away to be punished for it as the assumed mastermind (wherein it was actually Sho's plan), where she was tortured and her right eye was injured beyond repair. This--combined with Jellal rescuing Erza while taking her place in the torture chamber--caused her to stage an all out riot. The cultists, while well armed, were initially overcome by the physical and numerical superiority of the slaves but were being driven back by the cultists' superior weapons and domesticated monsters. The tide was turned when Rob, with the last of his magical power, destroyed the villains' flying creatures while defending Erza. With his life ebbing away, Rob told her that magic was a part of life. And while his life ended that moment, her own innate potential for magic awakened. With one spell, she completely broke the cultists and caused their defeat.
The slaves won their freedom, but many lives were not so fortunate. Jellal was one of them. While in captivity, a mysterious entity calling itself Zeref approached Jellal and possessed him. After the riot, Jellal was freed but at the same time, his worldview changed entirely. The boy before the agreement was kind and thoughtful, giving himself up for Erza and her friends when it was the bleakest, but this new child seemed darker, crazier, and unmistakably evil. Rather than suggesting some way to start a new life, this Jellal instead decided to rally the slaves together and work on the Tower to use for themselves. Most accepted, except Erza.
She tried to reason with Jellal about what their freedom now meant and that what he was doing was exactly what the cultists had been planning but her words fell on deaf ears. Thinking it hopeless, Erza took one of the boats and fled the island, the only one to do so as Jellal soon destroyed the remaining boats with his powerful magic. Now alone but free, Erza eventually found herself on the doorstep of the guild that Rob used to belong to and spoke of fondly--Fairy Tail.
Erza's first year at Fairy Tail was one full of road blocks but also one of much needed recovery. Even though Erza now had her freedom and has been accepted into Fairy Tail, it was difficult to make friends. Jellal's betrayal and the apparent loss of her friends at the Tower construction site had left a large impression on her that plagued her every moment. Until she met young Gray, however.
Like her, Gray had also lost his parents and mentor to foul misdeeds and was having difficulty dealing with it. Despite her natural lone wolf tendencies, Gray managed to pry his way into her life by talking and visiting her frequently, eventually breaking her out of her reflective facade and even get her a new, fake magical eye via Makarov's connections. Spurred on with a new vigor on life, Erza later met the other members of the guild that were around her age, Natsu and Mirajane, becoming a rival to both in the process. She also took it on herself to teach the younger Natsu how to read and write.
The next few years were spent training her phenominal magical powers and learning to master the "Requip" style magic to a degree that few in the present could dare to match (if they could at all) and being the general older sister figure to the younger kids at Fairy Tail. With a little cunning and a lot of hard work, Erza even managed to become an S-ranked wizard at the young age of fifteen, no small feat even for more mature, powerful wizards.
At the age of nineteen, Erza had become close friends with Natsu and Gray, and would become close with the newcomer, Lucy Heartfilia.
Not long later, Erza was made to confront her past, especially Jellal and the Tower of Heaven. After a string of successful jobs, Erza and Natsu, Gray and Lucy were treated to a relaxing day at a summer resort that went south by sundown. Her childhood friends had grown to become powerful wizards and had returned to take Erza back to the Tower of Heaven. Despite initial resistance, she complied and was taken away to prevent her Fairy Tail guildmates from being harmed.
On the way, Sho recounted to Erza the state of affairs of the Tower: It was nearly completed and she was to be the sacrifice so that they could all reach "Paradise" by resurrecting Zeref. Shattered with disbelief at first, she found the strength to escape her captors soon enough and reunite with the other members of Team Natsu and Juvia. It was here, with Sho, that Erza told her guildmates of her time as a slave to the cultists. While they were moved by her past, the others were less than impressed by her insistance to continue fighting this battle by herself--which happened whether Erza liked it or not.
[Personality]
Erza is...an eccentric one. But as Fairy Tail is a guild for eccentric people, so this is nothing out of the ordinary. Comparitively speaking. While certainly a kind and thoughtful, if strict, young woman, her approaches to some situations would normally be considered over the top. And despite having been raised otherwise, Erza has a very provocative choice in clothing even when her armor is concerned. And like the other members, Erza tends to react in erratic and unpredictable ways that would cause a normal person (such as Lucy) to either facepalm in embarrassment or cry out in shock. This could range from suddenly interrupting someone to point something out, pointing out something completely irrelevant, to suddenly changing moods and causing massive property damage purely by accident. This causes Lucy (and Guildmaster Makarov) no end of trouble.
While others would describe her as being compassionate with her strictness, Erza would not describe herself as such. While it is certain that Erza has justified her confidence in herself, her self esteem has loose ends with her former friends, whom she feels she betrayed by leaving them behind. Even after the disastor was averted and broken bridges were mended, she still sees herself as having failed at a time where it mattered the most. Luckily, her relationship with the rest of Team Natsu is much more optimistic.
Gray and Natsu have been rivals to each other ever since they met. They would fight every single time they came into contact with each other as little kids while Erza, the bigger, stronger and smarter girl, would break them up by defeating them effortlessly. Nonetheless they've grown unbreakably close to each other. When young Natsu admitted he didn't know how to read, Erza was more than happy to teach him how. In fact, so close as they were as kids, they apparently even bathed together (as Erza has more than once recounted). As for Mirajane, her own rival at the time, she was more than a little hypocritical, getting into fights with her that would leave the guild hall in pieces because of their destructive potentials. Her closest friends, Natsu and Gray could even be called her brothers....with her as the "third brother" rather than the big sister. Selfless to a fault, she is more than willing to die in their place if it is necessary, although the incident at the Tower of Heaven taught her to never attempt it.
Within Erza lies the strong drive for compassion and to do right even should it bring great personal pain to do so. While not overtly zealous about the idea of taking guild-sanctioned missions to save a village or finding a family's lost treasure, it certainly shows itself on a subtle and more appropriate manner as she smiles on a job well done. Even if she won't get paid to do it, if it's a favor for a friend, she'll be right on it (give or take a few trees unnecessarily uprooted). Citizens of Magnolia, the city where Fairy Tail is based, are also quite aware of her nature to even do small deeds for them ranging from rescuing cats (-1 tree unnecessarily uprooted) to busting illegal arms dealers (-1 business). Possessing a clever, trained ear for word on the street, Erza also keeps on the lookout for evildoers and criminals, always seeking to foil whatever plans they have simply because she knows it's the right thing to do, like when she overheard Eisenwald's plans to unearth Lullaby, a demon flute.
"But we're alive, aren't we? We don't have any magic power, but we're alive! We have the strength to overcome the weakness and the fear! That's what it means to be alive!"
~Erza Scarlet to her alternate self, Erza Knightwalker, on how life is more important than magic.
As the strongest woman in Fairy Tail, Erza sets it upon herself to uphold the guild's rules as a leading voice in their decisions. At times, however, she tends to go more than a little overboard, often chiding the other guild mates for their (very minorly) infractive behavior, such as smoking or loitering, although the punishments tend to be either just some yelling or some meager lecturing. Whenever the mistakes are big, however, such as when Natsu, Lucy and Gray took an S class mission despite not qualifying, she went on her own to drag all of them back to the guild hall for some far more severe punishment, only conceding the point when it was made clear that if she did this, the consequences would cost many people their lives. To sum up Erza's viewpoint, one could thusly dub her "Lawful Good". Erza's pride in Fairy Tail has been instilled in her since she was a little girl by Rob and she would do anything and everything for it. It is her home and her family, after all.
"My companions make my heart strong. If I'm fighting for those I love, I care not what happens to this body."
Even though her personality would beg to differ, given her attitude towards competition and armor and weapons, Erza is more than a little feminine, often incorporating "girly" forms into her armor and elegance to her dresses. When not on the job or in armor, Erza's lack of boundaries causes her to select outfits that range from the modest yet sexually appealing to the outrageously revealing and provocative, often showing a lot of cleavage or copious amounts of her shoulders and stomach. Her reserved personality usually does not show whenever she is not wearing her usual Heart Kreuz armor, and even some of her armors leave little to the imagination. This, combined with the fact she has snuck into Lucy's bed at night (while she was still in it) seems to indicate that Erza has a confusing grasp on the concept of modesty.
She also likes many things a normal girl would like, such as cute things or feminine dresses and especially cheesecakes.
It would be accurate to describe Erza's faults as impatient and with a sense of self sacrifice that kicks in even if she is heavily injured. Upholding a guild's laws are exhausting, yet Erza manages to turn it into a life policy. When trouble brews against them, she's always amongst the first to just throw themselves at the danger, thinking she can defeat it easily unless someone with higher authority can hold her back (and sometimes, they can't). This has, on some occasions, put her life at serious risk and therefore, her charges. While cool reason is normally a first option to a crises, Erza's hair trigger temper--a common staple for Fairy Tail, their tenacity--can sometimes get the best of her in a bad situation. When Oracion Seis began their evil plot, Erza's rushing to fight them only caused her serious trouble in the end instead of staying back and planning carefully. Even when people are speaking to her directly, Erza's impatience could cause her to snap back at them, causing panic. Coupled with her tragic history, this has led some to see her as socially awkward and even fellow guildmates avoid her if they see she's in anything that approaches a bad mood.
After escaping the Tower of Heaven, young Erza developed a habitual need to wear armor everywhere, just to feel comfortable and safe. When separated for too long, Erza began to feel insecure and vulnerable until she used Requip to put it back on. This has since been overcome after her battle with Ikaruga, someone who required skill and speed to defeat rather than cumbersome, thick armor.
Like all of the members of Fairy Tail, Erza is prone to going off and throwing punches at the drop of a hat (or shortcake, in her case). Even doing simple tasks like rescuing cats or hugging are usually executed in a weird and usually hilarious method (uprooting the tree to save the cat, suddenly hugging someone despite wearing very thick, very hard armor) that she is apparently unaware of. And like the rest of Team Natsu, Erza tends to sneak into Lucy's house when she isn't there only for the young lady to discover Ms. Scarlet drinking tea in her bedroom.
As for love, Erza has long since given hers to Jellal, before and after his brainwashing and even further curing of his dark ambitions, which were the result of unnatural tampering with his mind. Ever since they were kids, she has had a crush on the charismatic young boy Jellal Fernandes. Through the tumbles they've had since they reunited at the Tower of Heaven--him losing his memory, then slowly remembering the evil he has caused, her last name, and then eventually everything else--she's held on the entire time. His kindness and compassion even during the hardest of times are what attracted her to him in the first place and it pains her to see him now, struggling with his guilt after having regained his free will after more than half his life as a slave to a dark master. Through their clearly affectionate interactions, there dwells little doubt that they would have shared a happy lifetime together had Jellal not been taken by Ultear's caustic curse.
[Abilities]
As Erza's main feats of magic are magically teleporting armors to herself from some personal, pocket dimension somewhere on their person. As Edolas shows, they work even in other planets but Somarium would be a different story. As such, Erza's ability to quickly switch between armors--a major part of what makes her such a talented wizard--would be aggresively hindered. Once an armor or outfit is selected, it would take both time and even greater effort to switch out to something else. Her fake, magic right eye might cause some trouble as well, making her aware of dark, vile apparitions that normal people would not ordinarily see.

[First Person]
(Interviewer speaks in bold)
Have a seat, Ms. Scarlet.
Alright then. [She sits down.] I'm surprised you chose me for this. I'm actually fairly interested in your anonymous survey.
Very well, let's get started. First of all, do you--
My name is Erza Scarlet. I'm nineteen years old, female. My favorite snack is cheesecake and I have experience in magic and superhero duties.
....um...I didn't ask you anything yet, Ms. Scarlet...
Oh. Well, in that case, I saved you the trouble. Now, what is it you would like to ask me?
*Ahem* As I was saying: Ms. Scarlet, do you find yourself as the loyal defender of a small kingdom of fuzzy creatures under the attack of an evil invasion force, without compensation on your part?
Hm? Well, I must say, that's an oddly specific question. It's a definite "yes", though. [Erza begins contemplating something to herself, raising a hand to her chin as she looks away.]
Good, good. Next, are you of--
[Erza raises her head suddenly and raises her voice.] Wait a second....unless the kingdom of fuzzy creatures was plotting something, like throwing me away once they were done with me. [Her face contorts into anger.] I will not sit idly as I am tossed aside like useless trash! I'm an S-class wizard and I didn't become one by brute strength alone!
Settle down, Ms. Scarlet, it's only a question--!
Nonsense! I have read several books on the matter, and it is absolutely intolerable! [She stands, suddenly.] You wouldn't happen to be in league with the kingdom of fuzzy creatures, would you!?
Ms. Scarlet, please, it's only a question! There is no kingdom of fuzzy creatures, it's all hypothetical!
[Erza's face suddenly reverts back to its earlier, neutral state. Although there's a tinge of regret.] I'm sorry.
It's alright. Perhaps I should have given you a little more time to answer. As for the next question, what sort of things do you enjoy doing with your friends?
My friends?
Yes. Do you like playing sports, enjoying quiet moments, that sort of thing?
Now that you mention it, I do like staying over at Lucy's house when given the chance. Although I must have a few words with her regarding her selection of underwear that she keeps hidden in her dresser...as well as all of those manuscripts about adventure novels she stashes in her desk drawers...
...Ms. Scarlet, we're not being hypothetical with this question. You sound like you've gone through her personal belongings without her permission.
I'm not being hypothetical. I never indicated I was.
V-very well, we'll just skip over that question then...alright, next question: Have you ever had a desire to be extremely famo--
We have a serious problem.
Excuse me?
The reason for this survey. Why is it that you haven't told me what it is for yet?
We're just screening for potential candidates for the "Miss Multiverse Pageant" we're having in a few months' time.
Oh? And how am I doing so far?
...you've barely started...
I see. Don't dawdle then. There's several more after me, and we should be quick and concise with this, then. [Her posture changes completely to one of clear impatience and attention.]
*Ahem* Yes, well, anyhoo. Next question. You have found yourself in a fight or flight situation with three tough gang members. They've clearly challenged you. How do you react?
They will rue the day they ever crossed Fairy Tail. [Erza is now bizarrely brandishing a medieval-era sword of impeccable design. No normal girl would be able to hold it it's so long.]
M-Ms. Scarlet! Wherever did you produce such....uuuugh. Nevermind. I just can't imagine how that got past the metal detector. Anyway, Ms. Scarlet, would you like some tea?
Why you!!!--oh, I would love some. [The interviewer pours a hot cup and gives it to her.]
You might just be feeling a bit under the weather. Now, here's another question--pleasedontoverreactpleasedont--your friends are in danger and you need to rescue them. However, your steed is a disloyal, rash and daring steed that has a tragic past. How would you proceed? With or without your animal companion?
[Erza takes a sip. It's quite nice, actually.]
That's quite simple. You see, given time, even the most rambunctious creature can be tamed. In fact, I can say with clear confidence that I would look forward to meeting such a creature. I would ride the steed, majestically, and with a clear path of justice ahead of us.
That's...quite erudite, Ms. Scarlet.
Think nothing of it. Now, ask away....
Are you dating anyone at the moment? Male? Female? We don't hold preference against you.
....please ask another question...
Very well, if you insist. *Ahem* What sort of piglet if a wiggles could wonder why pants fly daisy sides down?
[She takes another sip.] Briefcase.
Quite. Most people ask me if something's wrong when I say that one. An intelligent response. If you had to rescue something from a tree, what is your favorite animal? How would you save them?
Is this another hypothetical?
Err...uhm, well--
Speak up!
Yes....er, no! I mean, would you save it?
Clearly, the tree is in the way and must be removed so that it may never harm another animal again. I've had some experience regarding this situation.
You'd....actually just cut the tree down?
Why not?
Your criteria mentions that you are capable of simply leaping great distances...wouldn't you instead use it to just jump up and save the cat?
...you know, I never thought of doing that before. It's quite simple, if lacking in creativity...
....I think we're through here. Good day to you, Ms. Scarlet. We hope to see you again, soon.
It was nice meeting you as well.
...
You're stuttering.
It's a bad, uhm, habit, Ms. Scarlet. Runs in my, well, you see my grandfather--
[Erza slams her hand on the table.] I will not tolerate such imperfect speech! [The tea she had spills onto the floor] My....my strawberry-flavor tea....
[In an instant, Erza's face turns murderously red as she looks at the interviewer. She breaks the table with her balled fist in much the same way a bear snaps a twig in half.]
Oh dear...
[Third Person]
A world, and a mirror of worlds...
....would be an apt description of this place. A legion and a half of darkened scarecrows appeared in the form of a dream to Scarlet at the blink of an eye.
"Somarium. The world of dreams."
White armor shined in the beacons of endless darkness. Crows blanketed the sky in formations, their cawing drowning out everything that wasn't her own thoughts.
"...is also a world of nightmares."
Scythes. Dripping with green venom, they were brandished by the scarecrows in this unknown field. Malice in their eyes, there was only one way this was going to go down.
The "Dreamberry" as it was called had an objective on it: "Rescue in the field of terror. Please help!" It was a text from some native, or someone. It meant very little. This was everything like the missions back home. Full of danger, they were. And a lot of the time, it seemed entirely hopeless. The literal minions of Hades have stood in her path before. This was only a different name.
But these fiends were easily figured out. They were scary, sure, and probably quite strong even individually. Only the strongest would be bothered to face them. And Erza was definitely very powerful. An S-rank wizard, she liked to remind herself. A wizard who defeated Lullaby, thwarted Oracion Seis, and one who even beat back the demons of her own somber heart. A proud member of the strongest guild of all time. The odds seemed stacked, but that's how it's always been.
In this situation, the best weapon is to not have one.
Her swords had disappeared at this point. The ravenous flock of scarecrows merely followed her quieted footsteps. Thinking as hard as she could as she walked, the boundary between her and her armory opened and her rather plain, Heart Kreuz-brand armor replaced the elegant, sleek white of her previous attire. And she breathed a sigh in relief. Twelve hours. It took an S-class twelve hours to switch. Either she's slipping or it's the air in this place. No matter.
It was a nightmare that Erza had symbolically had many times even when she was awake. Alone and scared, everything looked absolutely horrifying. But there's a few secrets once you actually stand up to look.
A clearing in the ravenous flock revealed a young girl kneeling over, her clothes torn a little by the passing crows and other small dangers. She looked ordinary for a young girl, probably someone from the native area. She had short, brown hair and green eyes that looked up to Erza Scarlet with fear and resignation.
She found herself smiling back and kneeling over to her level, the path that lead to them opened by the scarecrows quickly filled.
"So you're the missing girl."
She nodded, in between sobs.
"So you're afraid of scarecrows?"
The young miss nodded again. Given the subject material, these scarecrows were frightening indeed!
"But you're not ready to face your fears yet?"
This time, she shook her head and managed something. "N-no..."
It was like looking into the past. How often many things reminded her of the tragedies she herself faced when she was no taller than this young lass.
"It's ok."
Erza took the little girl's hand and pulled her to her feet. Standing, Erza kept her gaze on the girl and smiled a little brighter.
"No one ever said you had to face your fears alone. I didn't."
The little girl didn't seem to quite understand the notion. She pulled a little at Erza's hand, not willing to go on.
But it'll work. It always did. Friends together always came through in the end.
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] I've needed to add a new character for a while. Eddward has gotten slow, so let's pick up Erza to spice things up, shall we?
